January 29, 2009 - Coalition Meeting with the Town of Victor
This project has generated great public outcry relative to its size.   Consider:

Renaissance Square Project - January 8 Public Hearing. $23o million dollar project, with a great deal of news coverage. Just 18 people attended this recent Public Hearing.

Eastview Mall Hearing  - January 26 Public Hearing. $50 million dollars in upgrades,  with concerns regarding taxes being shifted away from Victor schools. 35 people attended the special Town Board Hearing.

Auburn Trail Extension Project -  December 8th Public Input Session.  $885,000 project. Over 100 people attended, and many additional comments were submitted afterwards.  This project has generated extraordinary concern to save a 3000 foot section of a 2 1/2 mile trail.

On January 29, Coalition representatives had a positive meeting with Supervisor Jack Marren and Board Member Peter Hessney.  We discussed our concerns about the impacts the proposed wide stonedust trail through RRMSEA would have on the environment, and on the many existing trail users.  We discussed how the project development has gone awry.  But mainly we emphasized our vision of the trail through RRMSEA as a major asset to the Town, Community, and Region.  We offered our expertise to work with the Town to help gain a "design exception," essentially a waiver to allow this section of trail to remain narrow.  We offered to direct our passion and expertise, which has been focused on saving RRMSEA,  towards helping Victor develop this area into a showcase for environmental education: offering interpretive walks, developing signs, and otherwise working with school and community.   We offered this website as an educational resource to learn about the special biodiversity of the area.   RRMSEA is a unique natural resource with a broad user base and many concerned stakeholders.  It could be a showcase project, different from any other "rails to trails" conversion, in the region and beyond.

January 15, 2009 - End of additional comment period requested by Victor Town Board.
Due to the extraordinary turnout for the Dec. 8th meeting, the Board was unable to hear all those who wished to speak.  The Board asked that additional comments be submitted via the Town Clerk. Thank you to the many of you who sent further comments. The comments submitted in support of preserving this area outnumbered those favoring a wide stone dust trail by 5 to 1. Mainly written by trail users, your comments are thoughtful and well written. They are being read.

December 8, 2008 - Town Board Public Input Meeting on the Auburn Trail Extension Project
This meeting was a Public Input Session held by the Board to hear comments from the public regarding the project. Turnout for the meeting was excellent -the room was full. Comments for a minimal trail width outnumbered those supporting a wider trail by 18 to 12. Ours were well-spoken and passionate. It was very important for the board to see such a strong turnout - Your presence and voice made a difference!

November 24, 2008 - Town Board Workshop and Meeting
The Victor Town Board was given an overview of the project from the perspective of the Planners. At the main meeting, several Coalition members and supporters expressed their concerns about the trail plans.

The Coalition had previously sent the Town Board information about the trail project. At this meeting the Town Board first heard directly from concerned citizens. The Board decided to invite more public input and will receive more public comments on December 8. As Lead Agency, the Board is responsible for SEQR, so it wants to be certain they hear from the public on this controversial issue.
